Immersive exhibits, “remove the glass” from between the visitor and the
artifacts offering you opportunity to “step into history.”
You can listen to the antique siren as you inspect the
1921 LaFrance fire truck and view one of the country’s finest
collections of Southwest pottery in our adobe villa. Learn about our
mining heritage when you explore the full-size, WAAIME uranium mine with
its interactive sound and exhibit stations. Audio stations,
located throughout, teach the Ute language and take you time traveling
in our historic phone booth. Our new 2,000 square foot temporary exhibit
area features ever-changing displays.

Our
firearms collection is one of the region’s finest. The Thrailkill
collection contains Winchesters, carbines, and pistols carried by lawmen
and outlaws. Also exhibited are
a Fifteenth Century Spanish cannon once owned by
Queen Isabella of Spain, the Fort Crawford diorama featuring a full-size Gatling gun, and a display documenting the life and times of
“Colorado Cannibal,” Alferd Packer.
The Sterling T. Smith Education Tower offers a 360° view of our impressive surrounding geography. Tower top displays include a working weather station, and provide information on downtown historic preservation efforts, regional archaeology and geology. Admission:
$5.50 for adults, $4.50 for seniors, $3 for children, and family groups, $16.
