We
offer life-long learners of all ages access to primary sources of
information about the region’s cultural and natural history. The
Loyd Files Research Library collects photographs, one-of-a-kind
manuscripts, maps, city directories, high school annuals, and rare
books. We offer onsite access to the Mesa County Genealogy Society’s
library of over 3,000 books, and materials collected by the Mesa County
Historical Society and the Quahada Chapter of the Colorado
Archaeological Society. Our
friendly library staff offers you assistance. Onsite research is
free to the general public, while telephone,
email
and written requests normally involve paid research. Collections
are for in-house use only, with Xeroxing, scanning, cassette tape and
photographic reproduction available for a charge. Referrals to other
agencies and information sources are provided with a smile! The Loyd Files Research Library coordinates the Mesa County Oral History Project, one of the largest of its type in the state. Many of our book titles are catalogued into Marmot (click on Museum of Western Colorado). Address: Public research hours: |

Our
beautifully restored Whitman Education Center at 4th and Ute is now
available for museum classes, educational programming, and for public
meetings. This 1925 vintage building, now headquarters for the Museum of
Western Colorado’s education department, was built as the Whitman
School. It housed the Museum when it opened in 1966, and the Regional
History Museum until 1999. Plan now to host your event in this premium
downtown location with its three classrooms and large auditorium space.
