Welcome to The Museum of Western Colorado |

Check out our new displays! We have two new exhibits that feature
one-of-a-kind prehistoric pottery from the Colorado Plateau, Navajo
rugs, and rock art panels from the Fremont and Ute Indians. Take a
stroll down the boardwalk and step back into the early days of Grand
Junction and experience the Pastime Saloon and the Park Opera
House. Visit the Nelson and Post Saddle Shop with our collection of
recently restored 19th Century saddles. Climb into a full-size
stagecoach and take an interactive ride. All this and much more make
history come alive!

From fossils to man-made artifacts and photographs, we capture our region’s rich prehistoric past and decades of post-settlement history. The Museum of Western Colorado, which has served our area for more than a quarter of a century, is embarking on a new vision - The Museum of the West, the new name of our Downtown Grand Junction facility. You are invited to become part of our exciting future! The Museum of Western Colorado is headquartered in Grand Junction and is accredited by the American Association of Museums. We have several major facilities: The Museum of the West, Cross Orchards Historic Farm, Dinosaur Journey, History Museum/ Smith Educational Tower and the Whitman Education Center. The Loyd Files Research Library and the administrative offices are located in the Museum of the West. Riggs Hill, Dinosaur Hill and the Rabbit Valley Research Natural Area are the Museum’s outdoor sites. In addition, the Museum of Western Colorado offers summer Dinosaur Excavations for youngsters and their families in the dinosaur-rich Morrison Formation near Fruita, Colorado. We are also home of the Western Investigations Team, solving some of the West's most interesting mysteries and questions. |
